Imphal, October 03 2010:
The philosophy of Meeteis handed down by our forefathers is no less than Hindu philosophy which is regarded as one of the highest standard philosophy in the world, said Minister of Education, L Jayentakumar.
Speaking as the chief guest at a function held at the Manipur Press Club here to release a book titled "Chingu Maichou Louremba Khongnangthaba" written by Sairem Nilbir, the Education Minister said, "Many Maichous (priest scholars) had worked hard in the ancient times to build a philosophy of the Meeteis, with which we as Meeteis can live proudly before the world" .

He further said that the Meetei philosophy which went on in its own way had passed through so many vicissitudes.
It faced virtual destruction due to religeous discrimination and administrative errors in various circumstances.
Though a number of Puyas had been collected and burnt, the beautiful philosophy remained impressed in the heads of the people.
Thus the Meeteis' philosophy could be saved.
Today, much progress has been made in research on the Meetei philosophy bringing it back to life, Minister Jayentakumar said.
Youth need to do more research on the Meetei philosophy to make it more complete, he said.
The youth of Manipur need to study the book being released today thoroughly and take a stand what we should do, the Minister said adding that it is important that such books on Meetei philosophy need to be brought out more abundantly.
Luching Purel Chingsubam Akaba Ninshing Lup honoured the writer of the book, Sairem Nilbir in connection with the occasion.
Chairman of publication division, REFORM, Mutua Bahadur presided over the function while former Minister RV Minthing and Superintendent of Archaeology, Sapam Bheigyachandra were the guests of honour.
