After successfully scaling Mt nepal Peak (7168 metre ASL) in North Sikkim, team leader Dr L Surjit told media persons at the Sikkim capital Gangtok that aim of organising the expedition is not only a preparatory step for the next venture to Mount Everest but to promote potential mountaineers and adventure lovers of the region.
Dr Surjit, who is also the president of Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association also reasoned that climbing Mt Nepal is to explore the team spirit for this route of technically more challenging.
While contending that financial support to the NE climbing team was meagre, he nevertheless expressed gratitude to GOC 57 Mountain Division and Indian Mountaineering Foundation for getting clearance of MOD to scale the Peak, located close to the international border.
He also conveyed thanks to Sikkim Mountaineering Association for facilitating the expedition as the co-organiser.
