Kohima, March 26: The North East People's Forum (NEPF) said it had explored all possibilities to secure for seat adjustments amongst its constituents for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections to enable NDA under Atal Behari Vajpayee to put up a "united front in the trouble-torn north east." Disclosing this to media persons here at his official residence on Friday, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio explained that the NEPF, though having much deeper, broader and long term objectives of achieving peace and to sustain all round development of the region as a "vibrant part of our motherland," thought that political unity amongst local, regional and national political parties at the electoral level was the paramount necessity.

This would make the spirit of give and take, share and care in securing the support of grassroots institutions and local leaderships would create the much needed political will to take bold decisions and mobilize public opinion both at the regional and national level, the Chief Minister believed.

Once this happened, it would surely facilitate the emergence of a regional and national response - a strategic response that had so far eluded them, he explained.

Rio, who is also Chairman of NEPF, explained that many leaders did not like taking risk that led to producing extremism and violence in the society and because of this, the NEPS came up with the idea of seat adjustments amongst its constituents.

Stating that serious discussions took place between leaders of NEPF and NDA in Delhi and also with other regional political leaders in Guwahati and other State capitals, the Chief Minister still hoped that more mature understanding would come amongst them soon.
