Since its inception two years ago, All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) has been able to confiscate different kinds of drugs worth Rs 1,26,56,814 ( rupees one crore twenty-six lakhs fifty-six thousands eight hundred and fourteen) during the course of its drive launched in different parts of the State.
Presenting a report on its achievement during a press conference held at the head office of AMADA here today in connection with its second anniversary slated to be observed tomorrow, deputy secretary of the drive committee of AMADA E Deveshwar said that the drugs which include illicit liquor and ingredients used in brewing have been confiscated by the volunteers of AMADA Mayai Loishang, District Councils and Local Councils during drives launched in different parts of the State.
The confiscated drugs include 1,68,782 litres of Yoongou, 1,938 bottles of Yoongang, 13,034 kgs of Chaknam, 6,110 kgs of Chamang, 5,084 kgs of Hamei, 3,202 kgs of Yangli, 55 packets of Dendrite, 1,462 bottles of Recodex/Biorex, 409 kgs of Ganja, 91 grams of No.4 (Heroin powder), 12,262 strips of Spasmo Proxyvon (SP tablet), 267 bottles of Mirtsanjivani Sura, 458 bottles of Beer, 1,39,249 packets of Raja Khaini, 1,78,180 packets of Talab, 51,758 packets of Zarda, 35,765 pieces of canned Khaini, 95 strips of N-10 tablet and 310 strips of other tablets.
During its two years of existence, AMADA had also organised a series of awareness programmes in different parts of the State including educational institutions to sensitize the public on the harmful impact of drugs.
Moreover, free medical camps for the people living in remote villages of the State have also been organised along with various social organisations and institutes like Shanti Hospital Research Centre, Zeliangrong Students; Union, etc.
With the main objective of encouraging the youths to lead a healthy life, AMADA had also launched its Sports Development Mission along with setting up 16 Multi Gyms at different places.
Deveshwar further informed that AMADA has been conducting home visit of all those who have been earlier rounded up for abusing drugs to monitor their reformation.
As a result of such around 45 of them have become the volunteers of AMADA, thus contributing their mite in the ongoing fight against drug menace in the society.
Secretary of AMADA drive committee Meghachandra who was also present during the press conference informed that AMADA has extended financial assistance to rehabilitate seven women who were selling liquor.
Meghachandra, who was in the habit of abusing drug before he was pulled up and given proper advice by AMADA, observed that the support of family members is very much essential in giving up the drug habit.
Two music albums on the theme of Opium War were also released at the occasion.
