Barely a fortnight after some villagers at the adjoining areas of Chandel and Churachandpur district were caught in the grip of the Diarrhoeal outbreak, the epidemic has hit the denizens of Senapati district particularly those residing in Senapati Bazar area, situated along the river bank.
Around fifty patients have been admitted and treated at Senapati District Hospital since June 7, Chief Medical Officer of the Hospital Dr Bhubonchandra informed The Sangai Express.
Currently around 10 persons of different ages are undergoing treatment at the hospital, he said, adding that the doctors are working overtime taking care of the patients.
Informing that there was one complicated case though patient has now recovered now, the CMO said the hospital authorities ensured that the Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) is provided to the patients round the clock.
Disclosing that almost all the patients are tenants staying in the rented rooms/houses situated along the river bank, Dr Bhubonchandra pointed out that the main factor for the spread of the disease is drinking contaminated water from the river.
So, besides treating them, the doctors advised the patients to use only boiled water, he added.
On the development of the hospital, the CMO said all the rooms in the hospital would be renovated very soon.
The operation theatre which has been lying idle for so long is now being utilised as a minor OT room.
Stating that all the staff nurses in the hospital are now attired in their formal uniform, the CMO maintained that the attendance of the doctors and specialists are very regular now.
New mattresses and other necessary clothings have also been provided in all the wards, he added.
In the coming monsoon, Dr Bhubonchandra said a large scale tree plantation programme would be carried out along the boundary of the hospital for which over 200 saplings have been kept ready.
The CMO also informed that a mobile Ophthalmic Operation camp would be held at the hospital very soon.
The hospital has already identified some patients who need the operation.
