In the aftermath of the seizure of several truck loads of fertilizers while being transported for export to Myanmar recently, twenty bags of Urea were seized from by a combined team of Pallel Police and troops of 20 Assam Rifles from Thamnapokpi located under Tengnoupal police station enroute to Moreh at about 11.30 am today.
The fertilizers were being smuggled by one Naorem Dinesh (25) s/o Rabei of Mayang Imphal Konchak Makha Leikai.
Driving a DI Tata bearing registration number MN-01K-7017, Dinesh was trying to take the Urea bags to Moreh from Pallel through Chandel before he was intercepted by the combined force.
Dinesh, the 20 bags of Urea and the DI Tata have been handed over to Kakching police station.
Meanwhile, the Additional Deputy Commissioner/Additional Collector, Moreh has issued a notification summoning 16 individuals reportedly involved in smuggling fertilizers.
Invoking Section 6B of the Essential Commodities Act 1955 and the Fertilizer (Control) Order 1985, the notification directed the 16 individuals to present themselves or send their representatives who have full knowledge of the fertilizer scam to the office of the ADC Moreh so that they can give statements or evidences about the ownership of the seized trucks/shaktimans/Maruti van and ownership/dealership of the seized fertilizer at present in police custody.
The fertilizer smuggling scam of 1230 bags of Urea and 640 bags of Potash also involved 16 vehicles including Tata trucks, Shaktimans and Maruti vans.
