Imphal, September 03:
With a large number of Congress MLAs beginning to raise their voice for Ministerial berths, Chief Minister O Ibobi today convened a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party wherein he appealed to his MLAs not to rock the boat of the Government.
In another interesting development, even as the Chief Minister is poised to fly to New Delhi tomorrow, four Congress MLAs including a Cabinet Minister left for Delhi today.
A number of former Congress MLAs who were dropped when the down sizing was effected demanded a reshuffle of the Ministry and to accommodate them in the new arrangement.
As the demand grew more audible, the Chief Minister was constrained to convene the CLP meeting to appeal to the MLAs not to do anything that could precipitate a crisis.
During the CLP meeting, the MLAs asked the Chief Minister to honour his assurance given during the time of the down sizing as well as to take up befitting action against the Congress MLAs who signed the memorandum endorsing the formation of a Greater Lim.
The Chief Minister assured the MLAs that their representations will be submitted to the Congress high command and due consultation will be held for any future course of action that may be taken up.
He also appealed to the MLAs to maintain their composure and acknowledge the fact that the size of the Ministry cannot be increased by any means.
Four Congress MLAs including a senior Cabinet Minister left for New Delhi today to lobby with the Congress high command over the question of Ministry allocation.
The four MLAs include IFCD Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, former Deputy Speaker L Lala, K Ranjit and N Biren.
The Chief Minister accompanied by Power Minister and vice president of the MPCC (I) Gaikhangam will leave for New Delhi tomorrow.
