A Multipurpose Pico Hydel Project of the Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) was inaugurated today at New Makhan village in Senapati district.
Chairman of the MANIREDA who is also the principal secretary, AN Jha who graced the inauguration function as chief guest inaugurated the project at a function held at the premise of the Royal Ambassador Academy today.
Commissioner of the science and technology A Ibocha presided over the function in which president of the academy Jomes Dhale, former minister RK Theko and CO of the 57 Mountain Division, Leimakhong, colonel Obiroy attended as guests of honour.
The project has power production capacity of 5 kilowatt and 50% of the total cost of the construction of the project was shared by Royal Ambassador.
As per the rule, state authority provided only the equipments of the power project.
Speaking on the occasion, AN Jha said that MANIREDA taken up such kind of project only in the place in the remote area where there is little power availability.
He also expressed that the agency can able to take up the project with the co-operation of the people of the area.
Director of MANIREDA L Manglem said, the project inaugurated today is the second such projects taken up by the MANIREDA.
Once inaugurated, the project is to be maintained by the villagers.
Currently MANIREDA is engaging in the construction of a 25 kilowatt capacity power project at Dangdong in Ukhrul district, 400 kilowatt project at Gainel in Senapati district and another 40 kilowatt project at Sekjang near Kotland along the NH-53, he informed.
