MC Marykom and six others stormed their way into the finals of their respective weight categories in the Asian Women�s Boxing Championships at Taiwan.
Marykom, who had spectacular victories in the preliminary rounds of 46kg class, outplayed her opponent from Chinese Taipei by RSC (Outscored) in the second round of semifinal.
The Manipur pugilist takes on a Phillipine for the top honours, according to sources in the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation.
Sarita Devi (54kgs) and Aruna Mishra (66kgs) also registered convincing wins to book the final berths.
However, the most exciting bout was played by Prannamika Boro against her North Korean opponent in the first semifinal of the 60 kgs category.
The keenly contested bout was a visual treat for the spectators with both boxers displaying skilled punches as also maintain a balance in the score throughout.
But eventually, the Indian edged out the Korean 36-34 points to romp home.
While the Indians were celebrating Boro�s victory, the North Koreans lodged a protest challenging the decision, which was turned down by the jury after a reviewal.
Besides, two defeats of N Usha and Meena Kumari on the opening day, 11 out of 13 Indian boxers had reached the last four stages in their respective weight categories in the elite 11-nation event being played from August 6 to 12.Contenders are from Thailand, Philippines, North Korea, Chinese Taipei, South Korea and Hong Kong.
