Even as a verification drive of teachers under the School Education Directorate is underway after the proscribed KYKL blew the lid off the rampant case of fake appointments in the department, Patsoi police today arrested a man on charges of possessing fake certificates from the Matric level till MA and working as a lecturer in a private college.
The crook is identified as one Md Fazlur Rahman Shah (43) of Minuthong Hatta Golapati.
With the help of the fake certificates the fraud worked as a lecturer in English at the Western College, Konthoujam.
Speaking to the press, OC of Patsoi police, Inspector Dhananjoy said that Fazlur Rahman joined the college as a lecturer in English on July 7 in 1989.The fake certificates produced by the fraud were issued in the name of Aligarh Muslim University.
According to the fake certificates Fazlur Rahman passed his matric in 1977 and PUC in 1978.According to the confessions of the accused, the fake certificates were bought at Bhagra market in Aligarh through a man for a sum of Rs 2000.The teaching of Fazlur kindled the suspicion of the college Principal and accordingly the latter sent the certificates submitted by him at the time of appointment to AMU for verification.
The university authority intimated that the certificates were fake.
Accordingly the governing body of the college approached the Patsoi police to take up necessary action.
Thereafter the movements of Fazlur was watched closely and OC Dhananjoy under the overall command of the SP of Imphal West picked up the accused from his residence on August 7.Fazlur has been remanded to police custody till August 12 while the police have also seized all the fake certificates.
The accused also told media persons today that prior to his appointment at Western college he taught as a lecturer for some time at the Standard college, Kongba with the help of fake certificates.
