Imphal, August 09:
With the apathy of State Government writ large on every aspects of their socio-economic life for the last many years, the people of Sanakeithel in Ukhrul district have much to complaint against and feel at ease in hosting a their own village flag instead of the National tri-colour.
Talking to media-persons who had gone to cover a free medical camp held at the village, former chief of the Sanakeithel Sailesh said although the people of the village have respect for the Indian National flag, the situation has come to such a pass in which the people feel at ease in hosting their village flag instead of the tri-colour with the Govt having left to their own fate for the last many years.
Apart from its location far from the State capital, absence of proper communication line to connect with the district head quarters of Ukhrul district has compounded the problems of the people who do not where to approach for help to ameliorate their plight.
Elaborating on the problems being faced by the people of the remote and underdeveloped village, chairman of Sanakeithel Village Authority RB Ramthing said the condition of the 16 km long road stretch from Mahadeva along Imphal-Ukhrul road which connect the village and serves as the only communication link for with the outside world for all the 17 villages located in an around Sanakeithel has been lying in a deplorable condition for the last many years.
In 1994, some gravels were scattered from Molnom village to Pashom for repairing and nothing more has been done after that.
In the only Primary Health Sub-Centre of the area, which was constructed during 1978-79 while Yangmasho Saiza was the Chief Minister of the State, the Government has not posted even a single doctor apart from a compounder, nurse and attendant.
The SDC office building which was also constructed around the same time, the Government did not posted any officials apart from a chowkidar.
The said office building had also been gutted in the Naga-Kuki clashes which took place in 1993.The village got electricity connection for four years from 1989.But now it literally remaining in perpetual darkness after all the electric wires and cable lines have been destroyed during the 1993 communal flare up, Ramthing informed.
Addressing mediapersons, Village secretary AK Johnson said that the only existing High School in the area was very popular and used to provide excellent education to the students of the 17 villages at one time, but its popularity and efficiency has come down due to lack of teachers and other required infrastructures.
The problems being faced by the people not only in the field of education, but also in other areas have been highlighted to the concerned Ministers and local MLA repeated.
But nothing has been done to resolve these problems, he lamented.
Giving a detailed account on the present condition of the High School, head master in-charge of the school ZK Ngatangmi observed that it would be unfair on the part of the State Government to appreciate the efforts of the private schools without giving an sympathetic consideration to the problems of the Government school teachers.
How could we expect to run the school with only three graduate teachers?, he asked.
Moreover, the State Government has not appointed any DDO to look after the three high schools in the district including this school since 1979, he informed.
Interestingly, although there is complaint of scarcity of water in the valley area of the State, the paddy-fields in Sanakeithel are found fed with adequate water from Ihang river, with the help of the canals constructed by the villagers themselves.
