In a recent operation launched in the NC Hills district of South Assam major success, security forces have reportedly apprehended 13 DHD cadres along with a huge arsenal of weapons and ammunition.
According to a PIB (DW) statement, acting on a tip off from intelligence agencies, the troops of 57 Mountain Division launched a major operation on the Dihangi-Umrangso road and intercepted 2 vehicles ( One Tata Indica and One Tata 407) in which the DHD cadres were travelling.
The vehicles were intercepted by an ambush party and it led to the recovery of a total of nine AK-47 Rifles, one M-16 Rifles, one Latho-de launcher, five hand grenades, detonators, bayonets, daggers and over 1100 rounds of AK 47 and M-16 ammunition, the statement said, adding that the cadres were also carrying Rs 36,135 in cash.
The statement further said that the DHD has a ceasefire agreement with the Central Government and as per the ceasefire ground rules, the militants were to remain within their designated camps and were to inform the police, if they ventured out.
The movement of armed militants was in gross violation of the ceasefire ground rules.
