Confiding that she would like to share her experiences in grooming talented sports persons of the State, two time world champion MC Mary Kom said she prefers a job in the Sports Department.
Interacting with news-persons at Manipur Press Club today, the hard-hitting pugilist made it known to all concerned that she is highly indebted to the grand reception accorded to her by the State Government and NGOs on her return after winning the World Boxing Championship title for the second successive time.
Mary Kom also revealed that her annoyance expressed to the Chief Minister when the latter offered a job in the Police Department is mainly due to her desire to continue association with sportspersons rather than waste her vast experiences by being in the uniformed service.
Conveying that Indian Railways had offered her employment opportunities on two occasion, the diminutive but power- packed puncher reiterated she declined the offers owing to her keen desire to serve upcoming sports-persons which would be impossible if she opts for either a job in other States or stay outside Manipur.
Moreover, Manipur Government is also reluctant to see the State�s champion sportspersons leave Manipur, she added.
Mary Kom, who also won in her weight division in the recently held Venus Cup tournament at Denmark, expressed that she gained more valuable experience from the said campaign and added that another Manipuri boxer L Sarita also clinched the gold medal in her (Sarita) weight category.
In addition to informing that India was the only Asian country in the Denmark meet, Mary Kom appealed to all section of the society to extend cooperation and pray for success of Manipur boxers in the forthcoming 4th World (women) Boxing Championship to be held at New Delhi from November 17. Joining the media briefing, vice president of Indian Amateur Boxing Federation Khoibi Salam said besides Mary Kom and L Sarita, three other women pugilists from Manipur are currently undergoing training rigours at the national capital.
