Imphal, March 16 2009:
With the local people not satisfied with the ongoing work of constructing retaining wall of about 120 metres from Hicham Yaicham Pat to Yaiskul Janmasthan, the same work being undertaken by IFCD has the potential to create a row among localities of the area.
Speaking to media persons this evening, Samom Rajesh and Akham Mahesh of Yaiskul Janmasthan appealed to all concerned to build the retaining wall as per the guidelines given by the Government but not with "let it go" attitude.
Under the current nature of executing the work, the river bank which has been serving as a road for the last many years would disappear soon, they observed.
To make roads alongside the western river bank through Yaiskul Janmasthan, due demarcation was done way back in 1972 and compensation already paid to the affected land owners.
However, as pattas of the land owners who have been paid compensation were not adjusted in time, new houses were built near the river bank.
It is against the wish of the local people to construct the retaining wall by making negotiations on its path as if to skirt the houses built anew illegally, they disclosed.
