Lamka, March 16 2009:
A metallic 'Quadricon' bridge installed in the year 1974 over Tuivai River in Singngat sub-division collapsed under the weight of a half loaded wood-laden truck on 11 March, exactly one-year two-months and four days after 23 people were killed in a similar mishap over Ngasuan Lui.
Though the 'Quadricon' bridge that collapsed to the river bed along with the truck knocked the bridge into two halves, none of the six occupants received any serious injury.
All of them were discharged immediately on arrival at the District Hospital with a few of them receiving first-aid.
The fire-wood laden truck with registration no.MN 02/8691 was driven by one Nabachandra Singh of Bangla village when they met the mishap at around 10am along the Singngat-Behiang stretch of Tedim Road.
Located at about 1km behind 'Ngasuon Lui,' the fateful bridge over 'Tuivai Lui' was about 30 ft long and about 20 ft from the river bed said a source well verse with the area.
Official sources said the bridge was marked 'Weak Bridge' ever since the Ngasuan mishap in Jan 7 last year and its wooden floor had already been repaired.
It also added that the concerned department is working for a diversion, as dismantling the entire bridge that collapse and rebuilding them will take some time.
