Imphal, April 23:
Observing that the latest violence against the protesting Kyamgei villagers was an unacceptable act of aggression on the part of the Government, the Centre for Organisation Research and Education (CORE), Manipur has condemned any development initiative pursued with violence and against the wish of people.
A statement issued by CORE while urging the State Government to consult widely and listen to the people before initiating construction work of NIT at Kyamgei, cautioned that the second term of the SPF Government led by O Ibobi would be heading for a direct conflict with the people of the State in case the Government refuses to pay heed to the vehement protest by the people.
Asserting that those hurt in the abusive police action must be compensated and treated appropriately, CORE maintained that the JAC should not be dismissed summarily.
Rather, the State Government should consult the people and the JAC and their views and opinions be accommodated in the overall plan to establish the National Institute of Technology, CORE demanded.
