Imphal, April 23:
Noting that the Motbung PHC which covers 139 villages and 8 sub-centres has become sub-standard and unable to cater to the needs of the ever increasing number of patients, the Thadou Students' Association (TSA), Sadar Hills has sought attention of the Health Minister to upgrade the PHC to the status of a Community Health Centre (CHC).
A memorandum submitted to the Minister of Health conveyed that most of the villages and sub-centres under the PHC are scattered far and wide while the Doland Khunou PHSC is inaccessible by road.
In spite of the additional burden being heaped upon Motbung PHC, it has been remarkably functioning to its maximum potential and serving the people with its little infrastructure and under-staffed manpower.
However, at times of seasonal epidemics like malaria, diarrhoea etc, the PHC gets stretched to the limit with patients overcrowding its premises, highlighted the memorandum.
Being an educational centre and a transit point for commercial and business activities, Motbung deserves a CHC in view of the increasing number of denizens, asserted the memorandum.
Appealing to the Health Minister to make a spot visit to the Motbung PHC and verify the points highlighted in the representation, the TSA urge the Health Minister to lay foundation stone for upgradation of the PHC to CHC after checking the authenticity of the representation.
In a press release, the Thadou Youth Association, Sadar Hills also demanded upgradation of Motbung PHC to a CHC at the earliest possible time.
Another press statement issued by general secretary of TSA Lammianlun Singsit clarified that there was no case of any UG group intimidating its leaders.
Reiterating its demand to repair NH 39 and to ensure regular electric supply in Sadar Hills area, the TSA warned of launching agitation in case the State Government refuses to pay heed to its appeals and reminders.
