Imphal, September 24 2009:
Troops of 31 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under IGAR (South) recovered huge cache of ammunitions being smuggled from Moreh to Imphal while conducting a check on a Tata Sumo bearing registration No MN 01K 7907 at Permanent Vehicle Check Post, Khudengthabi.
According to a statement issued by the PRO of IGAR (S), the recovered items included 10 live rounds of Lathode, 25 hand grenades (Chinese made), 25 hand grenade detonators, 400 live rounds of 9mm and 231 live rounds of AK ammunition.
The AR statement informed that the consignment was transported by two women named Mala, wife of Ibomcha, resident of Moreh and Thangjam Bina, wife of Thangjam Angucha, resident of Yaripok, Thoubal.
The apprehended persons along with the recovered ammunitions are being handed over to Imphal (W) Police Station.
