Education Minister L Jayantakumar has appealed to all the parents of the students and civil organisations for support towards the success of the five-day long school meet to be organised at Khuman Lampak Sports complex from September 26 to 30 .
Addressing a press conference at the office of the Directorate of Education (S), Lamphelpat here this afternoon, the Minister observed that class room teaching and learning is today not enough for education of the students and there is the need to find out and nurture the inherent talents of the students.
The school meet is to be organised to spread the idea that sports is also very essential to the development of the students, the Minister said, adding that fund has been earmarked in the budget to make the school meet as an annual event.
As the sporting events taking place at the school level are not much of help, the school meet has been planned to promote the sporting talents of the students at a higher level, the Minister explained.
It is through sports, culture and education that Manipur known to the people in other parts of the world.
So to ensure development of sports, culture and education to the International level is essential, the Minister added.
The Minister further informed that school meet to be organised jointly by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports and Department of Education (S) would be based on the rules and regulations of the District Sports Associations.
Governor Gurbachan Jagat would be inaugurating the event as chief guest while Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh would be chief guest of the concluding function.
On the last day of the meet, the Chief Minister would presenting incentive rewards to the meritorious students as announced earlier.
It is said that the school meet would include sporting events like volleyball, Kho-Kho, badminton, Mukna, 100 metre race, 400 metre race, long jump, 8-km long marathon, etc apart from literary events like painting, symposium and elocution.
In all 719 students from different parts of the State are expected to participate in the school meet and all of them would also be taken for trips to tourist spots.
