On the occasion of the UN International Day of Innocent Children and Victim of Aggression, a peace concert would be organised at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT) here on June 4 where Delhi based urban folk singer Sumit Bose would be belting out his latest human rights issue-packed songs.
Besides Bose, a host of Manipuri film actors and pop divas would also entertain the crowd along with highlighting the issue of human rights.
Among others, Bose would be presenting hit songs from his recent English album, Public Issue'.
The event is being organised jointly by Peoples' Rights Organisation (PRO), Manipur and Viveka Foundation, New Delhi, PRO chairperson Munindro K Waikhom said during a press conference today.
The concert would also encompassed the global campaign, Control Arms, being run jointly by Amnesty International, OXFAM and International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), Waikhom added.
On the significance of Control Arms campaign, Waikhom observed that lake of control of arms trade is fuelling poverty and human rights abuse around the world.
This campaign is to exert pressure on the Government to toughen up its stand on controlling arms trade, he said.
Waikhom hoped that since the event is being organised in asociation with other human rights bodies like Amnesty International, India; Control Arms Foundation of India, outh Asia Small Arms Action Network and HOPE it would be able to give a strong message to the public specially the youngsters on human rights issues.
Apart from popular State rock bands like GUSH and Diana's Band and most demanded Manipuri singers like Sadananda, Dinesh, Ranbir Thouna, Bobin, Raju, Alvina, Roshibina and Sophia, Manipuri film actors like Gung, Olen, Dhakeshor, Devita, Kamala, Maya Choudhury, Sunila, Binata would grace and perform on the stage as special guests.
Established in 2004, PRO has taken up various human rights issues in the State including campaigning against death penalty, imposition of AFSPA, honouring hunger striker Irom Chanu Sharmila on International Women's Days, etc.
