Noting that some people have been marketing animal fats as desi ghee after mixing it with certain aromatic compounds, the Union Home Ministry has directed the State Chief Secretary to look into the fraudulence and take up necessary actions.
Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nirmaljit Singh Kalshi has intimated Chief Secretaries of all States that some unscrupulous groups have been manufacturing desi ghee from animal fat after mixing it with certain aromatic compounds to give it a pleasant smell.
The Centre has taken serious note of this act of forgery.
It may even affect law and order situation of the country, conveyed a well placed source.
The Home Ministry's directive mentioned that such adulteration were usually done around meat shops and often owners of meat shops were involved.
The Ministry further directed the State Government to keep a strict vigil on meat shops and check such forgery of food products.
Subsequent upon the instruction, the matter has been referred to State Food Safety Authority of which the Chief Secretary is the chairman.
An enquiry has also been launched to check if there is any cartel indulging in forgery of food products in Manipur.
