Ukhrul, November 26 2009:
A 24-hour bandh imposed in Ukhrul district today suspended midway at 1.30 pm following a third party intervention to end the impasse between the striking body, Ukhrul District Light Vehicle Owners' Association and Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL).
The 24-hour district-wide bandh was imposed in Ukhrul district by the Ukhrul District Light Vehicle Owners' Association against TNL failure to initiate action to compensate the damage vehicles in consultation with the bandh calling body on September 19 .
A taxi service vehicle (Marshal brand) was burnt down by suspected bandh supporters on the night of September 19 on which 2006 Teacher Appointees Parents and Guardians imposed bandh but TNL opposed it and appealed the people not to support it.
The bandh was effective in the early hour as all shops and other business establishments within the purview of the bandh remained closed and all kinds of vehicles were off the road.
But normal life resumed after the volunteers of bandh calling body UDLVOA made publicity in the streets announcing the bandh has been suspended.
President of the UDLVOA, C Horam confirmed the suspension of the bandh effective from 1.30 pm and said it has been called off after a third party intervention.
The Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) came out with the assurance to negotiate on the matter and deliver justice to the body at the earliest.
Keeping confident on his assurance, the bandh has been called off, he added.
