Imphal, August 25 2009:
The president of All Tribal Disabled Union, Manipur (ATDUM), Momo Tantanga expressed discontentment and condemnation towards the state government for not taking care of the needs of the disabled people in the state including 3% reservation of government jobs under section 33 and 36 of Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation Act, and said that ATDUM will democratically protest the violation of the Act if the government fails to reserve the allotted quota for disabled persons, and, if necessary, will fight for their right in court.
Speaking to the media at the office of ATDUM on Tuesday, Momo Tantanga said the statement of the Chief Minister during the 9th assembly session that the quota of disabled persons for Govt jobs were allotted to other categories of job seekers because of lack of applications from disabled persons was wrong.
He said that advertisement for post vacancy in the Social Welfare Department on June 18 did not include reservation for disabled persons, and in this regard ATDUM had submitted a memorandum on July 4 to the Director of the Dept for re-notification before the announcement of the date for interview.
He had met the Director in connection with the matter on July 27 and again on August 24 in which the Director had assured that re-notification will be published, and when he tried to meet the Director again today, he was told that the director was attending a meeting somewhere.
