Kohima, August 25 2009:
Extortion, abduction and forced collection of money from the general public by the underground groups and maintenance of law and order were the core issues of the Ceasefire Supervisory Board meeting held between representatives of Government of India and the NSCN-K on Monday.
Briefing media persons after the monthly cease fire review meeting held at Dimapur yesterday, Supervisor of NSCN-K, C Singson said the meeting basically discussed about the law and order situation in Dimapur and both the parties shared their problems.
He said that the NSCN-K is very much concerned about the law and order in Dimapur district adding, "We will continue to do our best to bring changes for a better Nagaland".
Admitting that cadres of NSCN-K have been warned about indulging in extortion activities as sometimes some of the cadres are found to be involved, Singson, said that there are many groups that are randomly extorting money in the name of factions.
"Surely the blame will come to us.
We have tried out best to control our cadres," he said.
He also said that people are getting restive as they want complete change.
He added that people should also come forward in support and help the NSCN.
The government of India's chairman of Ceasefire Monitoring Group, Lt.Gen.
Mandhata Singh said that both the parties expressed happiness over the decline of violence and factional clashes.
General Singh said that meeting discussed about rampant extortion activities in Dimapur and viewed that forced collection and extortion should be looked into by the factions.
The meeting also discussed about the threats on law enforcing agencies coming from the factions and those from other elements in the name of the factions, which is creating a major problem for the law enforcing agencies.
Beside others, the meeting was reportedly attended by IGAR (N) Maj Gen J P Nehra, Nagaland Commissioner, H K Khullu, DIG CRPF, P M Ramalingam, and functionaries of NSCN-K.
