SRI (Systematic Rice Intensification) symposium held

The third State level symposium on SRI (Systematic Rice Intensification) method of agriculture organised by Development and Relief Department of Rongmei Naga Baptist Association was held at Classic Hotel today.
Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir, who attended the symposium as the chief guest, encouraged the State farmers to adopt SRI method in paddy cultivation for maximum yield and food security.
Assuring all possible technical and material support to the farmers by the Agriculture Department, the Minister said rather than depending on food crops brought from other States the farmers should strive to market agricultural products outside the State.
As guest of the honour at the symposium, Tamenglong AC MLA Janghemlung Panmei said that Tamenglong district, as well as other hill areas are suitable for growing different variety of food crops.
Adopting SRI method will further enhance the productivity and ensure food security in the State, exhorted the MLA.
As resource persons, SRI Secretariat Bhubaneswar representative Tushar Kanta Das deliberated on 'National Scenario of SRI', RNBA's Gaikhangjang Gangmei on 'Manipur NGO Initiatives on SRI' and Biswanath Sinha (SDTT-Mumbai) on Initiatives of SDTT on SRI & Its Impact' .
