Contending that the conduct of the Chief Engineer and subordinate officials of the Public Works Department has shown their disregard to the Chief Minister, All Manipur Bar Association has warned of taking recourse to various intense agitations if construction of the library building is not started within March 15.Addressing a press conference at Cheirap Court complex here today, Association president Khaidem Mani recalled that on the request of the Association during its golden jubilee function in 2003, the Chief Minister had given assurance for construction of a multi-storeyed library building inside Cheirap Court complex.
Subsequently, the State Govt sanctioned the required fund and with issuance of the work order PWD had been entrusted for construction of the said library building.
After the office building of the Association was demolished in January/February, 2006 and subsequent erection of six RCC pillars, the construction work has been taken up so far.
In case the work is not resumed within March 15, the Assn would be constraint to take recourse to various intense form of agitation, Mani warned.
He also demanded that instead of present system of keeping one common Chief Judicial Magistrate for both Imphal East and Imphal West, there should be separate Chief Judicial Magistrate.
Since the ban on Govt appointment had been imposed for a long time, the State Govt should relax five years for the general, OBC, ST/SC candidates at the time of appointment for job in the Court, he pointed out, while drawing the attention of the Govt for taking up necessary steps toward looking into the needs of smooth functioning of the Fast Track Courts.
General secretary of the Association Abdul Kayum maintained that the conduct of the Chief Engineer and his subordinate officials of the PWD who have failed to take up the construction work properly despite having issued the work order and sanctioned the fund shows complete disregard to the assurance given by the Chief Minister .
It is for definite that the Association would launch a series of intense agitation if the work for construction of the library building is not resumed by March 15, he said, while drawing the attention of all authorities concerned in this regard.
