Imphal, February 04 2009:
The tension that gripped the people of two villages in Kangchup area under Sapermeina Police Station of Senapati district yesterday has been linked to the AR-UG clashes that occured earlier during the day.
Tension broke out after some villagers from Kangchup Makhom led by two brothers of its Khullakpa namely Jangkham and Lethang came to the neighbouring Kangchup Chiru village and tried to drag away three villagers at around 4 pm yesterday over the allegation of sending armed UGs towards Kangchup Makhom.
Earlier during the day yesterday, troops of 16 Assam Rifles killed three suspected UGs during a shoot-out encounter near the Baptist Church of Kangchup Makhom.
Talking to mediapersons here today in connection with the tension that flared up between the two villages, Khullakpa of Kangchup Chiru village Akung Thanga informed that the two brothers of Kangchup Makhom village Khullakpa came along with some villagers to his village and dragged away three persons namely Khonowon Thanga (54), Thangasiek Thanga (25) and MS Rangneigir.
They were, however, left behind after other villagers chased after them.
Akung informed that the Assam Rifles personnel as well as the police have already left the village when the incident took place.
Villagers of Kangchup Chiru are simple and peace loving people who have no connection with any underground organisations, he asserted.
Stating that the yesterday's incident has generated a fear psychosis in the mind of his villagers, he also appealed to all the social organisations to find out the truth and help his villagers from such undue harassments.
In case of any untoward incident that may occur in this regard in future, the two brothers of Kangchup Makhom Khullakpa should be held responsible, Akung stated.
