Imphal, February 04 2009:
Taking strong exception against the increase of passenger buses fares while the price of fuel has plummeted down, the All India Students' Federation (AISF) Manipur State Council has today strongly urged the government to lower the fares of passenger busses plying in the state.
In a press release, the AISF Manipur state council secretary NG Soviet Meitei said that even if the price of fuel has been dropped down, the passenger busses have been till now charging fares that was fixed at the time of the soaring up of fuel price.
It said that the silence maintained by the government in this regard is 'unfortunate.' This shows that the government doesn't care for the well-being of the citizens, while adding that the government can solve the burden of the people by taking up new decision to cut down the fares of passenger busses.
The statement also lamented that buses' associations have agitated for the increase of buses fare, but when the price of fuels is lowered the organizations do not ever utter for the cut down of fares.
Saying that this is also an unfortunate happening, the students' body urged that the fares of passenger buses must be cut down taking into account the hardship faced by the people.
It therefore, demanded the government for the immediate cut down of fares and demanded a government order to this effect instantaneously.
It also warned that the AISF will launch various forms of agitations in the interest of the students and the public within a short time in case the government doesn't pay any heed to lower down the fares.
