Imphal, February 26:
Apunba Manipur Matam Ishei Kanglup (AMMIK) would be having a serious discussion on the 19-point code of conduct framed for the singers in Manipur during its forthcoming general body meeting in April for making necessary rectification so that an annual performance calendar of the singers could be brought out.
Announcing this during a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today, spokesman of AMMIK Dr Hamom Naba said the performance of the artistes would be regulated on the basis of the calendar.
AMMIK secretary G Tomba Sharma appealed to all concerned not to impose any sort of ban on the singers and give a chance to AMMIK to advice the singers concerned if they have committed any mistake.
Apart from life president of AMMIK Nongmaithem Pahari and working president B Jayantakumar Sharma, Prof Phurailatpam Iboyaima, AMUCO vice president KT Rahman, MSF assistant secretary (Organisation) Ksh Rishikanta, AMSU vice president E Ratankumar, DESAM vice president PC Newton were also present during the press conference.
AMSU vice president KT Rahman who also spoke during the press conference opined that the restriction imposed on organising entertainment programmes by some students' bodies might be in the interest of the students who would be appearing in the forthcoming Board and Council examinations.
The motive of the student bodies should not be misinterpreted, he said, adding that the entertainers should also contribute their mite to the cause of the people and the State.
Rishikanta of MSF said apart from the restriction imposed on organising entertainment programmes to bring about an conducive atmosphere for the students who would be appearing in the forthcoming examination, there are also some cases in which the restriction has been clamped for not following the rule of beginning the such programmes with patriotic songs.
Ratankumar of AMSU observed that AMSU recognises the contribute made by the artistes and the orchestra groups.
But the ban has been imposed on some artistes as they defy the diktat and went ahead with organising programmes with least consideration of the students.
It is also regrettable that while efforts are being made by the AMSU Headquarters to resolve the matter some disgruntled elements formed an organisation called Ingkhol hastily to express their displeasure, he added.
DESAM vice president PC Newton pointed out that it should be the responsibility of all people in Manipur to create a conducive academic atmosphere in the State.
