Imphal, February 26:
In connection with the killing of one Abdul Hakim of Lilong by police commandos yesterday at Paona Bazar, an indefinite bandh has been clamped in Lilong since noon today.
A late night meeting between the JAC and CM failed to arrive at a resolution.
A public meeting organised by the JAC Against The Killing of Md Abdul Hakim in protest of the killing adopted a number of resolutions including repeal of AFSPA 1958, initiation of adequate steps to book and punish commando personnel involved in the killing of Hakim etc.
It also resolved to call a statewide bandh from 6 am tomorrow and not to claim the body of Abdul Hakim if the State Government fails to book the culprits by today.
Moreover, the bandh has been enforced in Lilong since noon today by the JAC.
It is reported that suspected bandh supporters pelted stones and damaged many vehicles plying on NH 39 near Lilong in addition to burning of tyres on the roads.
Despite all these, guards of Lilong police OC remained mute spectators saying that they are helpless.
It is reported that former MLA Oken clad in dhoti coming from Imphal turned back from Lilong bridge.
On the other hand, women of Lilong Chajing resented the sudden enforcement of the bandh without any prior notice to the neighbouring villagers.
They also removed timbers that join the tarred road and the bridge.
It is reported that a team of Thoubal commandos coming in two vehicles to Lilong at around 2:10 pm turned back as the enraged bandh supporters geared up to attack the commandos.
The commandos fired some smoke bombs before fleeing.
The body of Hakim still remains at RIMS.
