Imphal, September 11:
Taking serious note of the prevailing academic atmosphere in Manipur University, a joint meeting of all the former presidents of Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) was held at Johnstone Higher Secondary School here today.
The former MUSU presidents expressed fear that the academic career of the students would be at stake if the present impasse over the abduction of MUSU president Ashokumar lingers on.
Besides it might have a backlash on the effort being made to convert Manipur University to a full-fledged Central University, they felt.
In view of this, the former student leaders fervently appealed to all the parties concerned to bring about an amicable solution to resolve the matter and release the abducted MUSU president at the earliest possible.
The former MUSU presidents who were present during the meeting are LC Somarendro, M Jibanlata, Dr N Mohilal Meitei, Kh Gourashyam, Dr N Jiten (Bobby), S Ibomcha Singh, S Sanjoy Singh, O Hemanta Singh and Kh Gourachandra Singh.
