All Manipur Muslim Organisations Co-ordinating Committee (AMMOCOC) has categorically stated that it is within the power of the State Govt whether the people of Manipur should be subjected to yet another spell of uncertainties and hardships after the recent economic blockade called by ANSAM with All Manipur Muslim Students� Organisation (AMMSO) all set to went ahead with its 48-hour general strike with effect from midnight of September 12.If the Government really care for the people, it should try to bring about an amicable solution with students� body which has announced its decision to impose the general strike, AMMOCOC vice president (Admn) SM Jalal said, while justifying the demand of AMMSO.
Meanwhile, various social organisations have announced their decision to support the general strike.
These include MSF, Lilong Branch, AMSU Lilong Branch, All Manipur Muslim Students� Union (AMMSU), Phundri Makha Leikai Popular Youth Club, All Santhel Women Development Association, Unemployed Development Organisation (Kshetrigao), Mairenkhul Youth Development Association (Sangaiyumpham Mairenkhul), Keirao Makha Leikai Youth Development Society, Education Unemployed Youth Association (Keirao Makting), Local Youth Welfare Association (Sangaiyumpham Mamang Leikai), Pioneers for Rural and Environment Services (Sangaiyumpham Yangbi Leikai), Puleipokpi Rural Development Organisation (Tentha Khunou), Social Development Association (Lilong Uku), Lilong Bazar Shop-Keepers� Welfare Association, Progressive Library and Youth Development Organisation (Lilong Bazar), Turel Ahanbi Mayai Leikai Social Welfare & Development Association (Lilong), etc.
AMMSO has called the general strike in pursuance of its demand for a separate reservation policy for the Muslims in Manipur.
Body appeals: Committee for Drug Abuse Prevention has appealed to All Manipur Muslim Students� Organisation (AMMSO) to exempt the organisers and the participants of the proposed residential camp cum treatment of drug addicts and alcoholism scheduled to begin from September 12 to 18 from the purview of the bandh.
