The 40th foundation day of Manipur Mahila Kalyan Samiti was observed at the complex of Children Home, Kabo Leikai, Deulahlane which is being run by the Samiti.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, Art and Culture Minister Ph Parijat lauded the activities of the Samiti.
With special attention being paid to the rights and welfare of the children all over the world, the service of the humanitarian organisations like the Samiti, which has been taking a pivotal role in shaping the future of the destitute children, should be encouraged, he said.
Manipur Govt should also give top priority in taking up the welfare programmes of the children and set aside separate budget for the purpose, he mooted.
The Minister further gave his assurance of providing books worth Rs 5000 for the inmates of the Children Home besides promising the gathering of financial assistance for organising awareness programme for the inmates of the Home to acquaint them with the basic knowledge of the agriculture.
Health and Family Welfare Minister N Nandakumar, who was the guest of honour of the function, said that dedication shown by the members of Samiti in taking care of the destitute and orphans despite various odds working against them is exemplary.
The number of destitute children in Manipur is on the rise.
Although the cases of child labour are comparatively lower in Manipur, the State has its own share of problems and issues related to children, he noted.
So the State Government should pay special attention to solve these problems, the Minister said, while assuring all possible assistance from his side to prevail upon the concerned Ministers and the Government authorities in this regard.
The Minister also assured to extend all the required medical assistance to the inmates of the Children Home.
Samiti vice-president A Bimola presided over the function which was also attended by Legal advisor of the Samiti N Binoy as one of the guests of honour.
National awardee and National Judo coach Moirangthem Deben who is a former inmate of the Home was also present at the occasion.
Established in 1965, the Samiti has nurtured over 40 persons who have excelled in their professions both in the Government and the private sector.
At present, there are 50 children staying in the Home.
