Kshetrimayum Johnson, a IXth student of Shantilata memorial School, has taken the first step to becoming an Internationally recognised artist by winning the local competition in Lions� International Peace Poster contest sponsored by the Lions Club of Imphal Greater.
Johnson�s poster was among more than 3,50,000 entries submitted from world wide in the 18th annual International Peace Poster Contest.
Lions Clubs International is sponsoring the contest to emphasise the importance of world peace to young people everywhere.
�World should strive for peace, irrespective of caste, creed, religion and country�, the 13-year old young artiste from Imphal said.
His poster was selected by a panel of jury members for its originality, artistic merit and portrayal of the contest, �Peace without borders�.
Lions Club of Imphal Greater Lion Vikas Jain said that he was impressed by the expression and creativity of the student.
�It is obvious that these young people have strong ideas bout what peace means to them.
I�m so proud that we were able to provide them with opportunity to share their visions�, he said.
Johnson�s poster would advance to face stiff competition through the district, multiple district and international rounds of competition if he is to be declared the international grand prize winner.
One grand prize winner and 23 other merit award winners would be selected from among the posters submitted from all over the world.
The grand prize includes a cash award of US $ 2,500, plus a trip for the winner and two family members to New York City, New York, USA for the awards ceremony on the occasions of the Lions Day.
Each of the 23 merit award winners will receive a certificate and a cash award of US $ 500.
