Imphal, August 26:
To facilitate effective drainage of Imphal city, three deeper drains will be constructed soon to drain away water from the town to Naga river.
The State PWD has initiated levelling survey of the proposed drains.
On the other hand, it has been learnt that construction of concrete slabs over drains in front of shops is one of the primary factors responsible for flooding of streets in Imphal after a few hours of rain.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, a PWD official informed that officials of the PWD, PHED, BSNL, PDA, IMC and Horticulture Departments conducted a detailed study on the failure of drainage system in Imphal town after construction of the BT Flyover.
A report of the study was submitted to the Chief Minister in which construction of concrete slabs over drains in front of shops is identified as the main factor responsible for the failure of drainage system.
The official team also inspected the ongoing road construction work below the Flyover, the feasibility of acquiring some more land in the northern side of the Flyover and the area underneath the Flyover where flowers and other plants will be planted.
