Imphal, June 26:
Amidst the hue cry raised against the State Government, the Manipur Olympic Association and the Youth Affairs and Sports Department for their alleged discriminatory approach in distributing cash incentives and assurance for jobs to the medal winners of the 33rd National Games, president of the Manipur Fencing Association and chief-de-mission of the Manipur contingent to the 33rd National Games Th Joykumar called on the Chief Secretary today at the latter's office chamber.
Today's meeting discussed on providing jobs to the gold medal winners in the 33rd edition of the National Games in a phase wise manner.
The meeting also looked into vacant posts available in different Departments of the State which may fit the sports persons.
The meeting will be continued tomorrow at 3 pm with a senior member of the MOA.
On being asked, the MOA informed that its president will attend the meeting tomorrow provided there is a formal intimation.
On the other hand, meritorious sports persons currently working Government Departments have been urging upon the State Govt to frame a clear cut guideline for their promotion.
Regarding the promotion of sport persons under Government payroll, the MOA president informed that the necessary guidelines have been incorporated in the State Sports Policy formulated in 2003 and efforts are on to make these sports persons fulfil the criteria for their promotion.
Concerning fresh appointments of outstanding sports persons, chief-de-mission Th Joykumar said that a detail report was submitted to the Chief Secretary on April 12 this year besides arranging for personal appointments between the Chief Secretary and the players concerned.
However, it still remains unclear under which criteria the best sports person will be selected both at the national and state levels.
There is strong differences among MOA executives whether the best sports person will be selected on the basis of new games record or the largest number of medals won by a player.
