In response to the ultimatum served by the Manipur University Teachers' Association (MUTA) to withdraw the statements given by the Vice-Chancellor on June 8 and June 16 by June 28, the VC has sent a letter to MUTA declaring that "Heads of the four Departments are innocent".
Talking to The Sangai Express today, MUTA president Prof M Ranjit informed that the VC's statement did not mention about withdrawal of his statement but suggested to resolve the issue amicably.
A meeting of the MUTA held today at the lecture hall of Political Science Department and participated by its 49 members discussed the letter sent by the VC as well as the crisis arising out of not supplying goods to four Departments of Manipur University even as the requisite amount was already withdrawn.
The meeting decided to appeal again to the MU authorities to withdraw the proceedings of the meeting of Deans and Heads of the Departments held on June 8 with the VC in the chair as well as the press clarification made on June 16 on the issue of 'fake purchases' on or before June 28, informed Prof Ranjit.
Pro-VC H Nandakumar has also submitted a statement to MUTA, he said while adding that the Executive Council (of MUTA) has been entrusted to decide on MUTA's future course of action upon expiry of the deadline set (June 28).Meanwhile, it is reported that the VC will be meeting the Governor tomorrow.
