Imphal, August 25 2010:
An emergency standing committee meeting of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union held today has strongly condemned the alleged inaction of the State Government against the ground rule violations by Kuki armed groups bound by the Suspension of Operation agreement.
The meeting was convened in the backdrop of the threat to Churachandpur-based Lamka Post daily's reporter RK Tombing allegedly by the finance Secretary of KNF (MC) namely Lhunjang.
The AMWJU standing committee's meeting also resolved to demand immediate withdrawal of the threat (through SMS) to the scribe observing that such an act is an infringement on the freedom of the press.
While asking the State Government to take appropriate action against the violators of SoO pact, the scribes' body has decided that in case the Government fails to act accordingly or the KNF (MC) does not tenders an apology to RK Tombing, AMWJU would initiate further course of action on its own.
The meeting while endorsing and extending solidarity to the sentiments of the Manipur Hill Journalist Union also pledged all possible support to MHJU, added an AMWJU release.
