Along with completing four years of its establishment, All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) has succeeded in confiscating intoxicants worth over Rs 2.22 crores including materials cost Rs 34,69,024 during its drive against consumption of drug and alcohol.
Established on December 20, 2005, AMADA would be celebrating its fourth anniversary at Samurou Mayai Leikai in Imphal West District.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at its Keishampat Laisom Leikai head office here today, secretary of Drive Committee, AMADA E Deveshwor Meitei informed that so far 123 units and local councils as well as four district councils of AMADA have been set up and 7,017 people have been pulled up for selling or consuming intoxicants.
He listed the seizures of AMADA during its four-year old drive as 231803 litres of local wine, 2136 litres of IMFL, 403 utensils used in brewing wine, 17485 kgs of Chaknam, 6110 kgs of Chamang, 5786 kgs of Hamei, 3242 kgs of Yangli, 85 pieces of Dendrite, 1844 bottles of Recodex/Biorex, 488 kgs of Ganja, 123 grams of heroin powder, 16537 strips of SP tablets, 267 bottles of Mirtsanjivani Sura, 485 bottles of beer, 5 country made guns, 154 vehicles and 5 horses used in transporting illicit liquor, 192 drinking joints/wine shops, 211 cassettes with pornographic contents, 184470 packets of Raja Khaini, 1263636 packets of Talab, 101650 packets of Zarda, 66220 cans of Khaini, 1407 strips of N-10 tablets, 534084 pieces of Mitha Mana, 35685 pieces of Kaka Khaini and 9277 strips of Actifed tablet.
The total monetary value of this seizure is said to be around Rs 2,22,44,281 .
On top of this, 212 public meetings have been organised in different localities to spread awareness on the harmful effect of drug abuse and alcoholism.
As part of its academic awareness programme, AMADA had also facilitated discussion session along with resource persons at 31 different educational institutions.
Furthermore, under its Sports Development Mission, a multi-gym having 16 stations had seen set up where young players are being trained in keeping their body fit and healthy.
Side by side, AMADA has also been launching a serious drive against the chemist shops in the State to monitor whether the medicines/ drugs are being sold in accordance to norm or not.
