Imphal, October 06 2009:
Though the State-sponsored Judicial Inquiry, set up to probe into the July 23 BT Road incident, began its formal sitting a month back, no affidavits have been filed from the public side unlike in the past similar probes.
To establish the facts and circumstances leading to the killing of Chungkham Sanjit Singh and Rabina Devi and injuring five others in the incident, the State Government instituted the inquiry with Justice (retired) PG Agarwal as its chairman.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed by the irate locals of Khurai, the birthplace of Sanjit as well as the agitators had already boycotted the panel saying that it was only a ploy to mislead the people and suppress the public agitation.
Various such inquiries conducted in the past by the Government had come to no logical end, the JAC had said while appealing to the people not to extend support to the panel.
The Commission that began its formal sitting on September 4, had already appealed to all parties, including the victims' family and social organizations, to submit their affidavits by September 21.

Since no affidavits were filed till the deadline expired, the panel again extended the date till Thursday (October 8).However no such papers have been submitted till date though a report from the District Magistrate (Imphal West) has been placed.
"So far we received no affidavits from the public including the families of the injured and the deceased persons even as notices were issued to them," a senior officer engaged in the commission, said.
"The commission, which will sit on Friday, may issue an order to this development," the officer said even as the Apunba Lup-led civil movement against the Imphal shoot-out continued unabated across strife torn Manipur.
The agitating people are demanding resignation of chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh on moral ground, exemplary punishment of the guilty cops and unconditional release of those arrested by the police in connection with the ongoing stir.
Meanwhile the Lup has demanded an immediate halt to what it termed as genocide perpetrated by the central and state governments by using security forces in Manipur.
