The 100th birth anniversary of Chingakham Pishak was observed today at Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) Hall here under the auspices of the Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Imphal and family members of (L) Ch Pishak.
Musicologist Laishram Birendrakumar, and president of Manipur Sahitya Parishad Prof Nongmaithem Tombi graced the occasion as the chief guest and president respectively.
The gatherings have offered floral tribute to the portrait of Chingakham Pishak.
A souvenir, and two books translated by Ch Pishak � Alexander Dumas' "The Count of Monte Cristo" and Homer's "Iliad and Odyssey" � were released on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, L Birendrakumar said Chingakham Pishak was an educationist, writer, social reformer and politician while recalling the contribution of Pishak to the Manipuri society.
Prof N Tombi remembered Ch Pishak as an intellectual and scholar, who had shared similarity with Lamyanba Irawat.
The evening session of the observance programme, N Kunjamohan and K Modhumongol have presented papers on "Pishak as a litterateur," and "Pishak as social worker," respectively.
The session was moderated by retired IAS officer, Elangbam Sonamani.
