A public meeting held today at Sagang Bazar in Churachandpur discussed the alleged discrimination of Kom community in exercising their voting rights in the 20-Sagang District Council Constituency and resolved to go on with their protest till justice is achieved and people are made aware of the plight of the minority among others.
A copy of the nine-point draft resolution was also submitted to the Chief Minister drawing his attention to conduct re-poll in two poling stations of Saiton and Dampi under Sagang DCC which Kom people were allegedly barred from casting votes in the re-poll held on May 31 last.

The public meeting was organised by JAC formed in connection with the Discrimination of Kom community in exercising their voting rights in the 20-Sagang DCC.
Representatives of various civil organisations like the United Committee Manipur, IPSA, HERICOUN, Komrem Union, Manipur and NIPCO also attended the meeting.
Speakers in the meeting condemned the booth capturing incidents at Dampi and Saiton polling stations allegedly by the supporters of Tongminthang, Independent Candidate backed by armed organisations and politicians.
Since the report of booth capturing/obstruction or prevention of Kom community from voting at 20/8 Dampi Polling station and 20/3 Saiton Khullen polling station by armed volunteers of Tongminthang Lungdim, Independent candidate was made well in time that 11 am to the returning officer, to the returning officer and state election commission.
Re-poll for the voters under these two polling stations should be held and also appropriate action against the RO, DRO and SEO should be taken up, the second point resolutions said adding that if government fails to do hear people demands they will assume that the government is encouraging people to win election through illegal and criminal means.
The meeting also demanded institution of enquiry for fact finding of the booth capturing incident by the state election commission and until the enquiry is completed counting of vote of the Sagang DCC should be deferred.
Polling station should be established at appropriate places where minority communities can exercise their franchise without disturbances, intimidation and obstruction, the meeting resolved.
