The Manipur state Commission for Women has taken up a suo motu case in connection with the May 26 assault of three women by Md Hamid (50) of Hatta Mana Ingkhol under Porompat police station, said a Commission release.
Informing that the case is a follow-up action of the Commission after its chairperson visited RIMS hospital on May 28 to enquire condition of the victims namely Ms Rukeiya (11), the release said the suo motu case has been recorded under Complaint Case No 11 of 2010 .
Meanwhile, the Joint Action Committee formed in connection with the alleged rape and torture of 11 year-old Rukeiya has demanded that the Government pull-up and punish the nine remaining accused persons without delay.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club yesterday, JAC general secretary Md Manawar Ali, who is also the victim's uncle, said in addition to demand for arresting the culprits the State Government should also extend financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to the girl's family as well as provide necessary compensation to three other victims namely Apik, Ibem and Islam.
Md Manawar also demanded that State's Social Welfare Department ensure Rukeiya's mother, who is a widow, gets all relevant benefits.
