Imphal, June 04 2010:
In protest against the inclusion of some villagers under Phayeng Gram Panchayat and Leirenkabi-Kadangband Gram Panchayat of Imphal West district in to draft map of the proposed Sadar Hills district, a public meeting was held at Phayeng today and decided to call a bandh along Imphal-Kangchup Road tomorrow.
It is said that inclusion has caused lot of inconveniences to the people of these villages.
According to the villagers, Phayeng Pharam Khunou, Phayeng Ching Khunou, Tairenpokpi Ching Khunou and Koutrak Ching Taba under Phayeng Gram Panchayat are villagers inhabited by Meiteis while Kangchup Chingkhong under the same Gram Panchayat is a village inhabited by Khongsai.
All these villagers are under Imphal East district.
However, all these villagers have been included in the draft map of proposed Sadar Hills district which was released recently.
Similarly, villages like Liba Thongkhong, Singda and Kadangband Part-I which are under Leirenkabi-Kadangband Gram Panchayat have also been included in the draft map.
The public meeting held in the community hall of Phayeng Awang Leikai was organised jointly by Phayeng Gram Panchayat and Leirenkabi-Kadangband Gram Panchayat.
The meeting unanimously resolved that inclusion of some villages falling within the jurisdiction of the two Gram Panchayats in the draft map is unacceptable and a bandh would be called along the Imphal-Kangchup Road tomorrow.
Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, Pradhan of Phayeng Gram Panchayat A Maimu informed that though the Government of Manipur has not yet released the draft map of the proposed district officially, inclusion of some villages under his Gram Panchayat in the draft map of Sadar Hills have been confirmed by the villagers.
