Lamka, June 04 2010:
A prominent civil body in the district, ZEPADA has appealed to the the Government to permit the people of Churachandpur to lift its PDS quota directly from the Silchar FCI godown with the suggestion that it may be replicated if proved successful.
Contending that there is an eminent danger of public patience running out, the agency in a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister cited the report of the FCI granting permission to the State to directly lift the PDS items from Silchar besides suggesting that the Government transport the PDS items through Guite Road.
The arrangement, if successful, may be subsequently replicated for other districts as well, it added.
The agency also made a fresh claim for inclusion of LPG within the purview of PDS.
The Government's initiative to ban transportation of timber and charcoal and charcoal is through strict security monitoring but it has significantly impacted on the livelihood of the hill people and their means of cooking as well said the memorandum.
This, ZEPADA says, calls for immediate steps to include LPG within the PDS purview.
