Imphal, March 05:
The alleged mass rape incident of January 16 in a village in Churachandpur district is gradually becoming an issue with more and more social organisations commenting on the incident, reports Newmai News Network.
Referring to the January 16 alleged mass rape incident, the Kuki Students' Organisation, General Headquarters (KSO-Ghq.) has stated that villagers of Tipaimukh and Thanlon sub-divisions of Churachandpur district have been harassed and tortured and the women folks raped by the non-tribal underground groups of Manipur operating in the area.
"We strongly condemn the atrocities committed by the non-tribal armed groups operating in Tipaimukh and Thanlon sub divisions" stated the KSO-GHq.
"The groups had disturbed the peaceful existence of the villagers and then turned them (villager) into refugees in an unknown environment due to armed groups sponsored landmines, tax and violence.
On top of this, the village girls became easy baits of the lusty beasts," stated the KSO.
The kuki students then said activities of the armed groups had been against the very foundation of the essence of revolutionary and human law.
"Besides the wilful apathy of the state government in deactivating the public machineries like medical care centres, police station to air the grievances and needs of the people to check out the cases related to verify the crimes in question is only a symbol of utter negligence of the people living in this area.
As such we fail to see reasons to be good citizens of Manipur in future, " it stated.
Council's dithering stand confuses students : Students appearing for the HSSLC exam at CCpur faced a confusing situation yesterday, despite the assertion on Friday night by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh that no examination will be cancelled due to the general strike called the following day, report our CCpur correspondent.
At a time when the examination was to begin a message allegedly from the council of Higher secondary Education authority was received by the police wireless department, informing about the cancellation of the ongoing examination.
However, when examination committee members led by Prof.LS Gangte SO, CCpur examination centre contacted the council office for details about the cancellation, they were told that the examination will go on as scheduled.
By the time, most of the students have departed as the news of cancellation has already been announced.
The committee members having no other means spread out looking for students and informing them of the non-cancellation.
They even went to the extent of picking candidates from far flung areas after browsing through their files.
Even then, the damage caused by that one message, allegedly from the council's office took its toil as sixteen candidates who had appeared in the examination the previous day were absent, their career sure to be offended, if not shattered.
