In a major step towards unification of regional parties in Manipur, the Federal Party of Manipur (FPM) during a general assembly held today at its office, unanimously agreed to dissolve the party and to join MPP.
The special general assembly presided by party president Dr L Chandramani was attended by MLAs Salam Ibohal, S Gopal and Sovakiran besides a number FPM ex-MLAs and candidates.
The assembly agreed to dissolve the party under certain conditions.
While talking to The Sangai Express, one of the main participants of the general assembly said that the resolution to dissolve the Federal Party under certain conditions was adopted after taking into account the unfolding scenario concerning the formation of a combined regional party in Manipur.
One of the principal conditions under which FPM was dissolved is that all the office bearers of MPP and its frontal organisations including its president L Borajao should be suspended and distribution of the administrative works of the combined party to all the representatives of the constituent parties on equal terms, disclosed the source.
He further mentioned that following the dissolution of FPM, the assembly also agreed to adopt the constitution, flag and symbol of MPP which have been recognised by the Election Commission of India.
