In a unique show of solidarity to the demand of the Government aided college teachers and to demand restoration of academic atmosphere, students from various schools came out of their class rooms and hit the street today forming human chain to urge the Government to resolve the ongoing agitation of the aided college teachers and allow the students to study in peace.
Wearing their respective school uniforms, students of Glory English School, Regular English High School and Diviner School stood along the side of Tiddim Road forming human chain braving the hot and humid climate for hours.
The demonstrating students also held placards and banners with slogans expressing their solidarity to the demands of the aided college students for restoration of normal classes.
On the other hand, six members of All Manipur Government Aided College Teachers' Association who were taking part in the hunger strike have been hospitalised after their condition deteriorated today.
The six agitating teachers who have been admitted to the JN Hospital after being taken into custody are identified as Khomdram Shyamashakhi Devi and Naorem Ibechoubi of Kakching Khunou College, Dr S Gojen Meetei and Thangjam Indubala Devi of Standard College and Chabungbam Saratchand Singh and Yengkhom Jayantakumar Singh of Liberal College.
Among them, Yengkhom Jayantakumar is said to be a diabetes patient while Khomdram Shyamashakhi suffering from ulcer problem.
The Association has been agitating for the last 17 days in protest against the failure of the State Government to implement the memorandum of understandings signed earlier in connection with the demands of the aided college teachers.
After launching various forms of agitation, the aggrieved aided college teachers began their indefinite hunger strike on August 28 in front of Keishampat Lairembi ground.
Meanwhile, acting secretary of the Association Dr RK Noren Singh, in a statement made available to the press strongly condemned the indifferent attitude of the Government towards the demands of the aided college teachers.
Stating emphatically that Association would continue to launch to agitation against the Government until all the demands are met, Dr Noren announced that the second phase of the indefinite hunger strike would begin September 1 PDA complex, Porompat.
The agitation would start at 10 am and would be participated by 25 teachers, he informed.
