Imphal, Aug 05:
The outer manipur MP Mani Charenamei informing the parliament on detention of 21 innocent villagers belonging to the Zomi community in Myanmar jail urged the Central Government to secure their release.
In his presentation to the ongoing monsoon session on August 3 during zero hour, the MP lamented that despite formal intimations on the matter to the union Home Minister as well as the External Affairs Minister on June 26 no positive action had been initiated by the Union Government so far.
According to a statement released today, mani Charenamei had urged the Government to take up the matter with the Myanmar government so that the innocent villagers languishing at the Myanmar jail are released on humanitarian ground.
Besides conveying to the house of Myanmar army arresting the villagers on May 6, he also highlighted difficulties inmates have to endure in Myanmar jail inmates who are not even served food.
The inmates have to arrange food for themselves which is practically impossible, added the MP.
While reminding the House that Zomis are settled on either side of the Manipur-Myanmar border and normally crosses the international boundary in their struggle for daily sustenance without disturbances from any quarters, the State representatives in the parliament prevailed upon his colleagues to impress upon the External Affairs and the Home Ministers to contact their Myanmarese counterparts for early release of the innocent villagers.
