Imphal, Aug 05:
Joint Action Committee of 5th Indian Reserved Battalion (IRB) has announced its decision of calling 28-hour general strike in Manipur with effect from 6 pm of August 16 to 10 pm of the following day in the event of the failure of the Government to declare the results of the viva voce conducted for recruitment in 5th IRB within August 10.
The decision to call the general strike has been taken as the Government has not given any positive response to the demand of the JAC despite having submitted representation to the Chief Minister on July 25 and launching various agitations from August 3 to 5, said a statement released by JAC secretary Khaidem Ajitkumar Singh.
Decrying the attitude of the Government of not listening to the reasonable demands of the people until and unless strike and bandh has been called, the JAC wondered how the problem of the unemployment could be solved if the Government scuttled the results of the job recruitment held.
Essential services like water supply, electricity, media and religious functions would be exempted from the purview of the proposed general strike, the JAC statement said, while appealing to all the people and organisations for their support to the right of cause of the aggrieved IRB recruitment candidates.
